Author's Purpose Charts
Wanted to make some charts for Author's Purpose that would appeal to my first graders. I went with the P.I.E acronym (Persuade, Inform, Entertain) but took it to the next level by actually using Pie as the text examples. I then added some Other Examples so the students would get additional visual examples of the different purposes. I have these up on my Teachers Pay Teachers site for only $1.00!
These are so awesome! In the new common core, the kiddos must be able to tell the author's purpose....this puts it in a kid friendly way! GREAT!!!

We've done a lot w/ Author's Purpose in NC. I love these posters. With cause and effect, I do a lot of visuals because they can participate too. My favorite is the cause: not doing homework-- what's the effect?? Then turn that effect into a cause--- It seems that our EOG does that a lot that you have to follow the cause and effect pattern until you get to what they are asking. Thinking maps are great for this too!
ReplyDeleteHelp!! I would desperately love to use these in my classroom, but it's downloading blurry on my Mac. Any suggestions?

Thank you, thank you!
I love these!! Is there any way you could make one for "Explain"? As in the author is explain how to do something, like how to make a blueberry pie. Examples being recipes, instructions, or directions.

Thanks so much for sharing. I saved these and just printed them and for some reason the Inform page keeps printing with black lines down the page behind the text and pictures. I'm assuming they're not supposed to be there. They don't show up on the file when I view it on my PC. Are they printing this way for anyone else?
ReplyDeleteHi Cindy! I LOVE these posters! Would you be able to make one for "explain" or would you happen to have the template for one of the others, so I can make me own? I saw that someone else had posted about this in August. I'm even willing to pay! Thanks a lot.
